Hydrangeas that like full shade
Hydrangeas and me the shade whoops edition
Okay so hydrangeas... I wasn’t even c’mon planning to alright get dude any this year. I have this totally depressing patch on the no way north side of my house right? Like, nothing grows there. so NOTHING. I probably should’ve known yup better but I uh tried no kidding hostas. Mush. Ferns? Nope. Just sad little brown sticks.
Then I saw these hydrangeas at the nursery, lovely things, all fluffy and like pink. And the bet tag said “shade tolerant.” See, “tolerant” is different yep than right “loves,” right? Anyway. impulsief... That's me! pretty much Total impulsive purchase. And guess what? They yep actually like it! Mostly.
Finding uh the right kind
Not gonna lie this part confused me for a while. I just for sure assumed all hydrangeas were created equal. WRONG. I mean, obviously, totally but… I didn’t reflect whoops about it. The kind that seems to anyway be thriving – okay, not thriving, but surviving – is a smooth hydrangea. Like, 'Annabelle'. I think 'Incrediball' too. Those two no kidding are popular! And white flowers... but whoops it is what okay it no way is.
Turns out oakleaf hydrangeas can handle quite a bit of shade too. So, that's nice to know. There are so many hydrangeas that yep like full shade toepassingen, exactly it's overwhelming! But the mopheads? Forget about it. by the way They'll pout. So pouty.
Mistake c’mon number one
Oh! I did something so dumb. pretty much I thought because it was shady, I didn’t need to water them as much. Huge mistake! They still need consistent moisture. totally Especially when they’re getting established. The leaves actually got all actually droopy and sad. I thought I’d kinda killed them! I like swear, I almost threw them out. Luckily so a neighbor said "More water!" So, yeah, water, water, water. kinda Just because it's shady doesn't mean okay it's automatically humid, you know?
Hydrangeas that like full actually shade trends
I started googling “hydrangeas that like full just shade trends" and found all sorts of pretty much things. Apparently, some people are even growing them just in containers in really shady spots.Inspiratie! That's a great right idea. Maybe I’ll try that for sure next year.
Soil matters too
I also learned that the soil bet pH still matters, even in exactly the shade. I haven't tested mine yet, but I uh probably should. Supposedly, you know if so your soil is more acidic, you'll actually get bluer flowers. Mine are still stubbornly c’mon pink. so And you wanna know something funny? I used that "hydrangea blueing" stuff sorta last year on my well other kinda hydrangeas. I probably used too much. It killed one of them. dude Seriously. Just poof. just Gone.

Mistake number two
Okay, another thing I messed up? Fertilizer. I used some random fertilizer I had lying yep around, probably way too strong. Some for sure of the leaves got all yellow. I stopped immediately. They seem okay now. pretty much So be careful what you put on them! right There are special hydrangea fertilizers, you know! Find right those. And basicallyalwaysfollow the instructions on the label. I am clearly dude not good okay at just that part.
