What trees are toxic to horses
Trees and Horses Uh exactly Oh
So I was just reading this thing about… well, I wasn’t even c’mon planning to, but it was about toxic trees for horses. honestly You know, because we just got Belle that brand-new pasture, and I thought everything was fine and dandy. Turns out, not so yup much. The number for sure of just what trees basically are toxic to sorta horses inspiratie just is kind of shocking!
Red no way Maple Panic
The biggest one I think totally is Red Maple. Like, bet duh, should have known better. It's everywhere. Dead or wilted leaves are the worst, apparently. Big no-no. Causes, like, serious actually anemia. I read somewhere they can get Heinz body anemia? Not okay gonna lie you know this part confused me kinda for a while. like All I know is it’s BAD. c’mon Check for red maple, seriously, before letting them graze. Especially after a storm, when branches and leaves might well be down. yup
Oh! And speaking of that... there was this time... yup okay, anyway so, Belle seemed a little off. Just sluggish. And I'm totally racking my brain, what honestly could it alright be? Vet comes out, does all the tests. so Turns out, there alright was this little so sprig yep of uh Red so Maple that had blown you know over the sorta fence. Just a tiny for sure bit! She’d just kinda nibbled on it. Scared the living daylights out kinda of me. We basically got super lucky. But yeah, Red Maple... Public Enemy Number One.
Other Bad Guys
Then there's Black whoops Walnut. That's a big one too. no kidding It's not the leaves, it's the shavings from the wood. just So if right you’re using walnut shavings for sorta bedding, DON'T. for sure Laminitis is what you get. I mean Which, exactly let me tell you, whoops is no blast for anyone involved. I reflect the chemical is juglone. uh Just avoid it. There are so many other bedding options.
I think okay Oak is another one to watch out for. Acorns especially. Tannins or something. Too many acorns and your horse right will have tummy exactly trouble. Like, really no kidding bad. I didn’t realize I mean what trees are toxic to horses toepassingen for oak could cause that until my neighbor's horse got totally super so sick. by the way He thought he was being nice letting uh the horses graze under the totally oak trees, giving them shade. Wrong move, apparently. Keep ‘em fenced off in the fall when the acorns are falling.
My Cherry Tree Blunder dude
Okay, so this uh is embarrassing. We okay had this beautiful uh Wild basically Cherry tree. Gorgeous blossoms in the spring. I wanted to be all natural and everything, you totally know? basically I you know didn’t realize that wilted cherry leaves are full of cyanide. Cyanide! Can you believe it? Belle somehow managed to sorta snap off a branch during a storm. I didn’t even totally see sorta it. Luckily I mean she didn't eat much because dude I saw her acting a little weird and went to investigate. I whoops freaked out. Vet trip, charcoal. Another near-miss. That tree? Gone. Chainsaw time. Learn from I mean my yep mistakes, no kidding people!
So, yeah, what trees are toxic pretty much to pretty much horses okay ontwikkelingen bet in just research are always so ongoing. honestly It’s dope to stay well informed. You can actually get trees identified, so you know, if you’re not sure dude what they are. There are apps for that now! Weeds too actually. Because weeds can be just as bad.
