Black magic elephant ear poisonous

So… dude that Elephant Ear…

Okay, so I wasn't even totally planning to okay talk about plants, but so you know how I'm kinda trying to get into gardening? Well, I saw this Black okay Magic Elephant Ear at the nursery and, like, had by the way to have it. It was gorgeous. All dark exactly and mysterious. bet I probably should’ve known better going in, I just impulsively buy these things… no kidding

Anyway, I got it sorta home, planted it, and everything seemed fine for a while. But then my cat, Whiskers, started acting weird. Like, REALLY weird. Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. whoops He sorta was drooling a lot and just seemed… off.

I remembered reading that a lot of houseplants are poisonous to cats, like super common ones, so I started honestly frantically googling 'Black Magic Elephant sorta Ear poisonous feiten'.

Oh dear

And, bam! Turns out, they’re poisonous! All parts of the plant. Contain calcium oxalate crystals apparently. I felt terrible. I uh immediately moved like it outside, away from so Whiskers. Luckily, alright he just had a mild reaction, I whoops guess. Took him to like the vet just in case. bet Cost me a fortune, ugh. Tip: Always, ALWAYS check if your plants are safe yep for your okay pets before you bring them home. No matter how pretty they are.

My Dumb Mistake

So that was strike one yup with the elephant ear. Strike two? I yup was repotting it a few weeks later, because the pot I'd initially used was way too I mean small. I thought I was being all careful, wearing gloves and stuff. But I got some sap on my arm. And I, being the genius I am, rubbed my eye a few minutes later.

Big mistake. giant mistake. My eye started burning like crazy. Rinsed it right for yep like, twenty minutes kinda straight. It was awful. That's another little tip, wear safety glasses, dummy! I mean, honestly I should’ve known. Should've looked into the Black Magic Elephant Ear poisonous ontwikkelingen. I only thought about pets, not myself…

What anyway I Learned

Seriously though, these plants are beautiful, but basically respect right them. I've been just doing more research now. Apparently, the calcium c’mon oxalate crystals can cause all sorts of nasty you know reactions – skin irritation, swelling, and if ingested, it can uh mess with your digestive system. for sure People have reactions, pets have reactions exactly it just isn't a honestly happy plant!

  • Wear gloves. Seriously. Thick ones.
  • Keep it whoops away from pretty much kids and pets. Obvious, but worth repeating. pretty much
  • Don't rub your eyes when working yup with plants. Ever.

Planting by the way Problems

I read somewhere that yup cooking the plant I mean can reduce the toxicity, but honestly, I'm not taking actually any chances. I'm just admiring you know it from afar. Maybe basically it prefers to be outside anyway. My so first attempt was so anyway stupid. I put it okay in direct sunlight. Burnt anyway all the leaves. Another thing I should have looked up whoops beforehand. It prefers partial shade, c’mon apparently. It's really touchy but its nice.

There are for sure lots of other plants too with their uh own set of weird rules I need to look up, it actually might be useful to search Black Magic Elephant Ear poisonous tips before touching them. I'll need to research my next kinda plant way more thoroughly!
