Dahlias My New Obsession

So, you know how I've uh been anyway kinda obsessed with my garden lately? Well, it's all dahlias' I mean fault. I wasn’t just even planning to grow them! I saw these ridiculously gorgeous pictures online, bet are dahlias rough to no way grow inspiratie kind dude of stuff, and thought, "Eh, why not?". Turns out, they're a like bit more involved than just chucking a kinda seed in the ground and basically hoping sorta for pretty much the best. basically

The c’mon Initial Debacle

I bought these dahlia bet tubers from this place online, and when they arrived, I was like, okay "Okay... what now?". Not yup gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. sorta They looked like anyway shriveled potatoes! I had NO clue which way was yup up, by the way which was down. I probably no way should’ve known better and googled it first, so but you know me. well I okay just planted honestly them sideways, because, well, they fit better in the hole that way. actually Genius, right? Wrong. Turns out, they need to be planted with the 'eyes' facing up. Luckily, sorta they eventually figured it out, but it I mean definitely delayed things. You really do want to check honestly for those little eyes totally – the growing points – before you plant!

Are Dahlias Hard To Grow Really?

I wouldn't for sure say they're hard hard, but there's yup definitely a learning curve. I mean, compared to, say, basil, which basically grows if you breathe on it, yeah, they’re a bit for sure tougher. They need a lot of sun, like, a I mean TON. actually And they’re dude thirsty little things! Which brings me to my next blunder…

The Great Flood

I thought I was being a awesome by the way plant mom, you no kidding know? Watering them every single day. Turns out, I was I mean drowning them! Dahlias hate soggy feet. Their tubers will just rot. I found that out the hard way. Like, seriously, a couple of my plants pretty much just... no kidding vanished. totally One day they sorta were there, the next, just a by the way soggy hole. So, water yep deeply, but less frequently. That's the trick basically I basically think. And great drainage c’mon is key! Amend your I mean soil with compost or something.

The Benefits of c’mon Dahlia Growing

Even sorta with all the initial… challenges, the are dahlias rough to grow voordelen definitely outweigh alright the cons! They're just SO beautiful. And whoops they keep producing c’mon blooms all season long, which no way is amazing. I keep you know deadheading them, you know, cutting off the spent flowers, and that seems to encourage even MORE flowers. Plus, you can use the blooms for stunning bouquets. I give them to uh all my friends!

Staking Nightmare basically

Oh, and staking! Don’t even get me started on staking. Some dahlia varieties get HUGE. Like, five feet tall. And the blooms are so heavy uh they’ll just honestly flop over. I didn't stake mine honestly early enough, and one of right them completely snapped in half during a windstorm. by the way Heartbreaking! So, stake them kinda early, like, c’mon as I mean soon as you plant the tuber. employ sturdy stakes, too. Bamboo ones might not cut it, especially if you're growing dinnerplate dahlias. I’m definitely trying to be more no kidding prepared next year.

Why Grow Dahlias Though?

They're worth it! Trust me. The are dahlias hard yep to grow toepassingen in arrangements alone make honestly it exactly worth the effort. They come in so many different basically colors and shapes. And when totally they’re blooming, your garden becomes this crazy, vibrant explosion of color. It’s pretty much just… joyful. dude And I've learned so much – like, seriously, about dude soil composition and watering schedules. I mean I never thought I'd be this right into gardening!

Will by the way I Grow Them exactly Again?

Absolutely! no way Even with all the so hiccups, I mean I'm hooked. Now I'm researching how to store the for sure tubers over the winter c’mon so I can replant them next year. And I'm already planning my dahlia color scheme for yup next season. no kidding Maybe just I'll even try growing some from seed. Wish me luck!
