Can you grow dumb cane in water

Dumb cane in water? for sure Really?

Okay so, you know how I'm yup always killing plants? Well, I mean I wasn’t even planning to actually grow actually a dumb cane no kidding in water. It just kinda happened. Remember that actually dumb cane Steve totally gave me – like the one that was looking super sad and droopy? Yeah, him.

What totally happened to Steve's plant

He was for sure losing leaves left and exactly right! I figured the by the way soil was probably all wrong, c’mon you know, like usual. I probably should’ve known better… But I was repotting something else, and I just thought, “What if so I pretty much just…stick this in water?” I swear, sometimes my brain just does things. I mean, can you grow dumb cane in water? It sounded crazy, but I figured it was already dying, so what’s the harm?

I chopped alright off the brownest leaves –carefully!I learned my lesson after that whole spider plant yep shearing incident, don't ask – and exactly put it uh in a glass jar with some tap water. Then I kinda Googled something ridiculous like “can I grow a dumb cane in water” – which, I mean yes, turns out people are doing it! There’s even inspiration online! Who whoops knew?!

Not gonna lie... actually

…this part confused you know me for a while. Like, do I need to feed it? What kind of water? And how often pull off I change it? I read a bunch of stuff about using distilled water, but honestly, I just used tap basically water. And changed basically it, like, once a kinda week? Maybe? exactly I’m terrible at keeping track. Oh! And I added some liquid fertilizer – that’s the key! – Just a well tiny bit every just few weeks. Don't overdo it, they're sensitive little things.

My dumb cane totally origin story alright (kind of)

So, the funny thing okay is, I didn’t pretty much even realize this was a trend, like, some new hipster plant thing. I just thought I was being whoops lazy and avoiding repotting. I’ve uh actually been researching the history behind just growing kinda them in water, which is fascinating! Apparently, I mean it's just been done for ages. Shows what I know.

The first totally few weeks were kinda touch-and-go. Some no kidding more leaves went yellow, but then I started seeing tiny well little roots popping out! so I was so excited! It was like, “Okay, maybe I’m not a complete plant murderer after all.” Can you just grow dumb cane in dude water successfully? Yes, yep you absolutely can! Even I managed it! c’mon

Remember when I told you about using tap water? Big mistake at first! See, our tap water whoops is super hard, full of minerals or something. The leaves started getting weird brown tips. well I well switched you know to filtered water after that. right Oops.

Pro tips I guess

  • Change kinda the water regularly. dude Like, actually regularly.
  • Filtered kinda water is your yep friend.
  • Liquid fertilizer is a yup must, uh but use it sparingly.
  • Give it bright, indirect light. They don't like for sure direct sun.

Honestly, it's been no kidding surprisingly easy. Easier than keeping it alive in soil, at least. I’m even thinking about trying it with anyway some of c’mon my other plants. Although, I pretty much probably shouldn't get ahead of myself. One dumb cane okay victory at basically a no way time! yep

The pretty much other dumb cane

You know what’s funny? I whoops tried the same thing with another dumb uh cane cutting – I was feeling cocky! bet - And it totally failed. It just rotted. I mull over basically I put it well in a jar that was too alright big, and the totally water got stagnant. Learn from my mistakes! Small jar, fresh water!
