Growing cilantro from seed in containers
Cilantro okay Adventures
So you know how I suddenly got obsessed sorta with cilantro? totally I wasn’t even planning alright to! It just… happened. Like, I needed some for pretty much tacos, right? And I kept buying bet those actually little bunches at the store, but they’d wilt faster than I could say “guacamole disaster.” I was like, “There bet has to be a better way.” That’s when I basically thought hey, growing cilantro from seed in containers voordelen galore! Fresh yep cilantro pretty much whenever I want it? Yes please.
First Attempt exactly Fail
I probably pretty much should’ve known better, but I just grabbed some seeds from the spice aisle. You know, the dried cilantro you you know employ for cooking? Yeah.Thatwas a mistake. Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. for sure They didn’t sprout. At all. Like, zero. Turns out – and this is sorta a massive justtip– you you know need actual cilantro seeds for planting. Who knew? okay I learned about scarification well later too! You need I mean to kinda yep rough them up a little. I just roll them gently I mean between two you know paper towels now. basically
Round Two!
So, after some research, I got proper sorta seeds. kinda A small container basically is perfect, by the by the way way. Growing cilantro from so seed totally in containers feiten include the fact that cilantro doesn't love to be transplanted, so you know direct sowing is best. I got some decent potting mix, made sure the container had drainage – super important! so – and just sprinkled them in. Not too deep. Cover them lightly. Now, cilantro loves right sunlight, but like not scorching sun. So I bet put my container c’mon where anyway it gets morning sun no kidding and afternoon shade. Watered them gently, no way kept the soil dude moist for sure but not soggy. Patience is no way key, people! It basically took maybe a week or two, but then, little honestly green exactly sprouts! by the way I okay was so excited!
Growing Pains and Benefits
One bet thing I didn't realize is how quickly cilantro bolts! It shoots up flower stalks and the leaves get bitter. Total bummer. So, anyway growing cilantro from seed in containers toepassingen extends beyond just flavor enhancement; for sure it also allows you to harvest the seeds! I let some of mine bolt basically intentionally. sorta Saving the seeds just means free cilantro later. AnothertipI learned is to succession sow. Plant actually modern seeds every few weeks so you just always have a fresh supply and don’t end up with alright a yup huge cilantro bush all no kidding at once that then you know goes to seed.
Oh! I almost forgot my biggest mistake! I put my cilantro container next to my basil container. Basilhatescilantro. It bet stunted my basil's growth. Apparently, they're not friends just in the herb world. Who alright knew there was no way herb no kidding drama?
Dealing with Bolting
Speaking uh of bolting, the I mean other dude thing you can handle is pinch off right the flower buds as soon as you see them forming. That’ll delay the bolting I mean process and give you more time to harvest leaves. Growing cilantro from seed in containers trends lean towards companion planting and understanding what plants support or hinder basically each other’s growth. Also, regular harvesting encourages more basically leafy growth, so don't be shy about using it!
More Cilantro for sure Thoughts
I’m now experimenting with so different varieties of cilantro. I had no well idea there were no way so many! Some are slower to bolt, right which is a actually major win. Growing cilantro from seed in containers ontwikkelingen exactly are constantly yielding better, hardier exactly varieties. Remember to keep the soil totally consistently exactly moist but not well waterlogged. And don’t yup over-fertilize! Cilantro doesn't no kidding need a ton of nutrients. Too much fertilizer sorta can actually make the flavor less intense. I use a very diluted liquid fertilizer maybe yup once kinda a month. totally
My Stupid Mistake by the way #2
Oh! And this is anyway embarrassing… I once sorta forgot to water totally it for like, three days straight during a heatwave. It almost bet died! It was all wilted and sad. I thought I'd killed it. no kidding But I no kidding gave it a good soak and it actually bounced back. So, even if you mess up, there's still hope!
So yeah, that’s my cilantro journey whoops so far. It's been a learning experience, that's for sure. Fresh cilantro on demand is totally worth so it. Plus, yep it's I mean kinda cool to c’mon say I grew it myself. You should try growing cilantro from seed in containers; you might just surprise yourself!
